52 Weeks of Star Wars

50/52 | God Save The Queen: Fett Pistols

52 Weeks of Star Wars is a weekly photo project starring various characters from the Star Wars franchise. This photo project is a continuation of sorts to my original series; 365 Days of Clones, specially my Cloned Photos mini-series.

Today marks the Fiftieth creation in this year long adventure. As the title suggests; 52 Weeks of Star Wars, one new photo will be taken, edited and added to the running total every Sunday. The twist is that all the images will be a recreation of sorts of a previous image. Some; like today, will be album covers, some will be film posters and others will be famous or well known images of the 20th century. There may even be the odd recreation of a painting!

“God Save The Queen: Fett Pistols” is my recreation of the Sex Pistols’ second single called; God Save The Queen and was originally released during Queen Elizabeth II’s Silver Jubilee in 1977.

Some of you may be wondering why I chose to create a Cloned Photo base upon this particular album cover. This one seems a little obvious, Queen Elizabeth has simply been replaced by Queen Amidala. The hard part here was figuring out what the name of the band would be. The Max Rebo Band and Cantina Band came to mind, but they were from the original trilogy and I didn’t like how that felt. I ended up with “Fett Pistols” as it sounded similar to “Sex Pistols” and I figured only the Fetts (Jango and Boba) would have the guts to pull a stunt like the Sex Pistols had.

49/52 | Emperor Defeats Luke

52 Weeks of Star Wars is a weekly photo project starring various characters from the Star Wars franchise. This photo project is a continuation of sorts to my original series; 365 Days of Clones, specially my Cloned Photos mini-series.

Today marks the Forty Ninth creation in this year long adventure. As the title suggests; 52 Weeks of Star Wars, one new photo will be taken, edited and added to the running total every Sunday. The twist is that all the images will be a recreation of sorts of a previous image. Some; like today, will be a recreation from a famous image of the 20th century, while others will be movie posters or album covers. There may even be the odd recreation of a painting!

“Emperor Defeats Luke” is my recreation of one of the infamous Dewey Defeats Truman photos depicting incumbent United States President Harry Truman holding the incorrect headline on the front page of the first edition of the Chicago Tribune on November 3, 1948.

Some of you may be wondering why I chose to create a Cloned Photo base upon this photographic image. Arguably; Dewey Defeats Truman, is the most famous headline in the 150 year history of the Chicago Tribune. It is also likely the most embarrassing moment in the paper’s history. It was thought that Governor Thomas Dewey of New York would win the Presidential race and win the election. Similarly, the Emperor was sure that he would be able to defeat Luke and bring him to the Dark Side. As it turns out, he didn’t account for Darth Vader turning on him and helping Luke defeat the Sith Lord. Perhaps this photo is a stretch… but aren’t they all? I do, however, really like how it turned out!

52 Weeks of Star Wars is a weekly photo project starring various characters from the Star Wars franchise. This photo project is a continuation of sorts to my original series; 365 Days of Clones, specially my Cloned Photos mini-series.

Today marks the Forty Seventh creation in this year long adventure. As the title suggests; 52 Weeks of Star Wars, one new photo will be taken, edited and added to the running total every Sunday. The twist is that all the images will be a recreation of sorts of a previous image. Some; like today, will be a recreation from a movie poster, while others will be recreations of famous images of the 20th century or album covers. There may even be the odd recreation of a painting!

“Rebel Rug Cutting” is my recreation of the American Dance Romance Dirty Dancing.

Some of you may be wondering why I chose to create a Cloned Photo based upon this particular movie poster. Simply put, the romance between Johnny Castle and Frances “Baby” Houseman has always reminded me of connection between Han Solo and Princess Leia’s; minus the dancing of course!

46/52 | Saving Princess Leia

52 Weeks of Star Wars is a weekly photo project starring various characters from the Star Wars franchise. This photo project is a continuation of sorts to my original series; 365 Days of Clones, specially my Cloned Photos mini-series.

Today marks the Forty Sixth creation in this year long adventure.

“Saving Princess Leia” is my recreation of World War II classic Saving Private Ryan.

Some of you may be wondering why I chose to create a Cloned Photo based upon this particular movie poster. This one is pretty simple. Obi-Wan, Luke, Han and Chewbacca rescued the Princess. Similarly, John Miller and Company rescued Private Ryan. Obi-Wan and Miller are both the leaders of their respected groups and both died in battle. Obi-Wan to Vader’s lightsaber and Miller to several bullets from the Nazis.

45/52 | Help! Me Obi Wan Kenobi

52 Weeks of Star Wars is a weekly photo project starring various characters from the Star Wars franchise. This photo project is a continuation of sorts to my original series; 365 Days of Clones, specially my Cloned Photos mini-series.

Today marks the Forty Fifth creation in this year long adventure.

“Help! Me Obi Wan Kenobi” is my recreation of The Beatles tenth studio album; Help!

Some of you may be wondering why I chose to create a Cloned Photo base upon this particular album cover. As you may have noticed, I’ve recreated several Beatles album covers over the course of this project; A Hard Day’s Night, Let It Be and Abbey Road to name a few. I’ve wanted to create this one for a while as I’ve always liked the connection between the famous line said by Princess Leia “Help me Obi Wan Kenobi, you’re my only hope.” and the Beatles album and movie entitled Help!

Some of you may be wondering why I chose to replace the Fab Four with these particular Rebels. Obi-Wan has once again taken John’s spot as I feel that Obi-Wan and John were (and are) the true leaders of their groups. This time, Luke takes George’s position as I feel he struggled to become one of the leaders of the group. Han replaces Paul as I feel in some ways Han is the true leader of this group of Rebels. Finally Chewbacca takes Ringo’s place as Ringo, much like Chewbacca, goes wherever Paul or in our case; Han, goes…

44/52 | For Those About To Beep

52 Weeks of Star Wars is a weekly photo project starring various characters from the Star Wars franchise. This photo project is a continuation of sorts to my original series; 365 Days of Clones, specially my Cloned Photos mini-series.

Today marks the Forty Fourth creation in this year long adventure.

“For Those About To Rock” is my recreation of AC/DC’s seventh (technically eighth) studio album; For Those About To Rock (We Salute You).

Some of you may be wondering why I chose to create a Cloned Photo base upon this album cover. In my opinion, Artoo is the glue that holds the Star Wars franchise together. Personally, I feel that Artoo is one of the most underrated characters and deserves more spotlight time. Throughout this series, I have made a conscious effort to include Artoo as much as possible; I believe he has now been in about ten shots thus far. There is also the obvious connection between R2 D2 and AC/DC names as well…

43/52 | Le Violon d’Artoo

52 Weeks of Star Wars is a weekly photo project starring various characters from the Star Wars franchise. This photo project is a continuation of sorts to my original series; 365 Days of Clones, specially my Cloned Photos mini-series.

Today marks the Forty Third creation in this year long adventure.

“Le Violon d’Artoo” is my recreation of the Man Ray’s Surreal photograph entitled Le Violon d’Ingres.

Some of you may be wondering why I chose to create a Cloned Photo base upon this photographic image. Man Ray had a fascination with Jean Auguste Dominique Ingres’ paintings, so much so that he created a series of photographs that were inspired by several of Ingres‘ nudes. Similarly, I have had a fascination with George Lucas‘ Star Wars franchise. I too have created a series of works influenced by someone else’s work, just as Man Ray had before me…

42/52 | Son of the Empire

52 Weeks of Star Wars is a weekly photo project starring various characters from the Star Wars franchise. This photo project is a continuation of sorts to my original series; 365 Days of Clones, specially my Cloned Photos mini-series.

Today marks the Forty Second creation in this year long adventure. As the title suggests; 52 Weeks of Star Wars, one new photo will be taken, edited and added to the running total every Sunday. The twist is that all the images will be a recreation of sorts of a previous image. Some; like today, will be a recreation from a famous painting, while others will be recreations of various movie poster or album covers and some will be remakes of famous images of the 20th century.

“Son of the Empire” is my recreation of Rene Magritte’s infamous Surreal "Son of Man" painting from 1964.

Some of you may be wondering why I chose to create a Cloned Photo based upon Magritte’s painting. There are always many ways to interpret any work of art and Magritte’s Son of Man painting is no different. Part of my interpretation is that the Man’s face (supposedly Magritte) is obscured by a large apple. Similarly a Stormtrooper’s (or Sandtrooper in this case) helmet obscures his identity. Magritte’s Man could be anyone, as could the Sandtrooper that is depicted. There is also the obvious biblical connection with the apple to the Creation of Man. In the case of my work, it could be linked to the Creation of the Empire… than again, maybe not. I also just liked the look and feel of the shot…

41/52 | The Solo Mission

52 Weeks of Star Wars is a weekly photo project starring various characters from the Star Wars franchise. This photo project is a continuation of sorts to my original series; 365 Days of Clones, specially my Cloned Photos mini-series.

Today marks the Forty First creation in this year long adventure.

“The Solo Mission” is my recreation of the American spy film The Bourne Ultimatum.

Some of you may be wondering why I chose to create a Cloned Photo based upon this particular movie poster. Simply, I believe that Han Solo is the Jason Bourne of the Star Wars franchise. Solo always manages to succeed at what he does; similarly, so does Bourne.

40/52 | These Aren’t the Droids

52 Weeks of Star Wars is a weekly photo project starring various characters from the Star Wars franchise. This photo project is a continuation of sorts to my original series; 365 Days of Clones, specially my Cloned Photos mini-series.

Today marks the Fortieth creation in this year long adventure.

“These Aren’t the Droids” is my recreation of the plot twisting crime film The Usual Suspects.

Some of you may be wondering why I chose to create a Cloned Photo based upon this particular movie poster. The line “These aren’t the droids we’re looking for” is likely one of the most recognizable from the Star Wars franchise. I’ve wanted to create an image relating to this for some time but couldn’t figure out how to do it as a Cloned Photo. A while back I made the connection between the two films. I decided to use only droids that were being sold by the Jawas at the Lars Homestead as this made the most sense to me. These droids all had contact with Artoo and Threepio prior to the search by the Empire to locate them.
